§ 21371 Retired Officer Pension Protection

Key Takeaways

  • •If you were a cop, firefighter, or forest worker and retired before April 1, 1973, your pension stays the same as it was on March 31, 1973.
  • •Your pension can still get small changes, but only the ones allowed by another part of the law (Article 3).
  • •This rule only applies to people who were in these jobs right before the law changed.

Example

A police officer retired in 1970 and was getting a certain amount of money every month.

Even if the pension rules changed later, this officer still gets the same amount they got in 1973, with only small adjustments allowed by law.
