§ 21119 Partial Retirement Cost Exclusion

Key Takeaways

  • •If you work less hours because you're partly retired, this law affects you.
  • •You won't get the usual pay raises that other workers get to keep up with living costs.
  • •This rule started in 1996 and is still in effect.

Example

Imagine you're a teacher who starts working only 3 days a week instead of 5 because you're slowly retiring.

While other teachers get a small pay raise every year to help with higher prices (like milk or gas), you won't get that raise because you're working fewer hours.
