§ 20993 Military Leave Employer Contributions

Key Takeaways

  • •If you go away for military service, you can still pay into your retirement fund like normal.
  • •Your boss (the state or your company) will also pay their part into your retirement fund, just like they would if you were working.
  • •The amount your boss pays is based on the current rate when they make the payment, not the rate from when you were away.
  • •These payments can be added to the next big check-up of the retirement fund.

Example

John works for the state and has to leave for military service for a year. While he's gone, he keeps paying into his retirement fund.

John's boss will also pay their part into his retirement fund, just like they would if John was still at work. The amount they pay is based on the current rate when they make the payment.
