§ 20890 Safety Service Conversion Rules

• •If you worked a job that wasn't a safety job before, but now it is, your old work time can count as safety work time.
• •You must still work for the same place where you did the old job.
• •You also need to have some other safety work time with the same place.

A person worked as a school janitor for 5 years. Later, the school changed janitors to safety workers. Now, the person still works there and also drives a school bus (a safety job).

The 5 years as a janitor can now count as safety work time because the job was reclassified, the person still works there, and they also have safety work time as a bus driver.
