§ 20824 State Retirement Fund Contributions

Key Takeaways

  • •The state puts money into a retirement fund every few months for workers whose paychecks come from certain state funds.
  • •If a worker is not earning retirement benefits during their first 2 years on the job, the state doesn’t have to put money in for them yet.
  • •Once those first 2 years are counted toward retirement, the state starts putting money in.

Example

A new state worker starts a job where their paycheck comes from a special state fund, not the main one.

For the first 2 years, the state won’t add money to their retirement fund. After those 2 years are counted, the state will start adding money every few months.
