§ 20538 Retirement System Electronic Payments

Key Takeaways

  • •Agencies must pay retirement money electronically, like a bank transfer.
  • •If an agency can't pay electronically, they can ask for permission to pay another way (but not with a credit card).
  • •The retirement board decides when this rule starts and how to pay.

Example

A small town's fire department needs to pay money into the state retirement system.

They have to send the money electronically, like a direct bank transfer. If their bank is too old and can't do that, they can ask the retirement board to let them pay by check instead.
