§ 19783 Military Service Reinstatement Rights

• •If you work for the state and quit to join the military, you can get your old job back if you return within the time limits set by another law (Section 19780).
• •You must start active duty in the military after quitting your state job.
• •You won’t get some special benefits that other returning workers might get (like those in Sections 19775, 19775.1, and 19775.3).

John works for the state as a park ranger. He quits to join the Army and starts active duty. After serving for 3 years, he comes back and wants his old job.

John can get his park ranger job back because he left to join the military and returned within the time allowed by the law. However, he won’t get extra benefits like paid time off or bonuses that some other returning workers might get.
