§ 18003 State Employee Payroll Warrants

Key Takeaways

  • •The boss (Controller) can give out paychecks before the work period ends.
  • •Once the paycheck is given to the right person at work, the boss is not responsible if something goes wrong with it.
  • •The boss makes the rules for how paychecks are handed out.

Example

Your boss gives you your paycheck on Friday for the whole week, even though the week isn’t over yet.

The boss can do this, and if something happens to the paycheck after it’s given to your manager, it’s not the boss’s problem anymore.

Upon delivery of any warrant to an authorized officer of a state agency as provided herein, the Controller and his bondsmen shall be under no further obligation for the proper disbursement of the amount of the warrant or the money represented by it. The Controller, pursuant to the provisions of Article 5 (commencing with Section 11346) of Chapter 3.5 of Division 3 of Title 2, shall adopt rules and regulations for the delivery of payroll warrants to employees.
