§ 16772 Bond And Coupon Destruction

• •The State Treasurer or authorized agents can destroy or burn bonds and coupons that have already been paid or canceled.
• •This only applies to bonds and coupons that are no longer valid because they've been paid or canceled.
• •The law was updated in 1959 to include this rule.

Imagine you have an old savings bond from 20 years ago that you already cashed in.

The state can safely destroy that old bond since it's already been paid and is no longer needed.
