§ 16365 Federal Fund Reimbursement Plan

Key Takeaways

  • •The state can pay for things first using its own money, even if the money is supposed to come from the federal government.
  • •The state can get paid back later from the federal money.
  • •The state can guess how much it will spend and move that money ahead of time.
  • •The state agency has to ask for the money back in writing and show proof of spending.

Example

Imagine the state needs to fix a road, and the federal government promised to pay for it. But the federal money is stuck in a special account.

The state can use its own money to fix the road right away. Later, it can ask the federal government to pay it back. The state can even guess how much the road will cost and move that money early to make sure it’s there when needed.
