§ 16302 State Donation Allocation Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •If you give money to the state, the Treasurer will take it after the Controller checks it.
  • •You can choose where your money goes (like a specific fund), but if you don’t, it goes to the State School Fund.
  • •The state has rules (Section 11005) about accepting donations, so they might not take your money if it breaks those rules.

Example

You want to donate $1,000 to help California schools.

If you tell the state you want your money to go to a specific school program, they’ll put it there. If you don’t say where, it automatically goes to the State School Fund. But if your money comes with weird conditions (like ‘only use this to buy pizza for kids’), the state might say no because of their rules.
