§ 14694 State Project Planning Funds

Key Takeaways

  • •The state can use money from a special fund to plan big projects, but they need approval first.
  • •A special board decides what the project will include, how much it will cost, and how it will be built.
  • •The state must tell the legislature about the project details and costs at different steps before spending money or starting work.
  • •If the project is a lease, some usual rules don’t apply.

Example

The state wants to build a new office building for government workers.

Before they start, they have to get approval to use money for planning. Then, a board decides how big the building will be, how much it will cost, and how it will be built. They also have to tell the legislature about these details at least 20, 60, or 30 days before certain steps, like spending money or signing a contract. If they lease the building instead of owning it, some rules are different.
