§ 14176 Emergency Ride Home Grants

Key Takeaways

  • •This law lets groups apply for money to start a program that helps people who usually take buses, trains, or carpool to get home in an emergency.
  • •The program must offer free or cheap rides home (like a taxi or rental car) if someone has an emergency and can't use their normal way home.
  • •The group must check if the program is working after one year by counting how many people use it and if more people are carpooling or taking the bus.
  • •The group must write clear rules about who can use the program and how.

Example

Imagine you carpool to work every day, but one day your kid gets sick at school and you need to leave work early. Normally, you’d have no way to get home.

This law helps pay for a program that would give you a free or cheap taxi ride home in this kind of emergency. That way, you don’t have to worry about being stuck without a ride.
