Key Takeaways

  • •The state can delay paying up to $250 million to California State University to manage money better.
  • •The delayed payment must be paid back by May or June of the same year.
  • •This rule helps the state handle its cash flow without breaking other laws.

Example

Imagine the state has a big bill to pay the university in January but doesn’t have enough cash at that moment.

The state can wait to pay up to $250 million of that bill until May or June, as long as they pay it back by then. This helps them manage their money without causing big problems.
