§ 12801 Secretary Appointment And Salary

Key Takeaways

  • •Each government agency has a boss called a 'secretary'.
  • •The Governor picks who gets to be secretary, but the Senate has to agree.
  • •The Governor can fire the secretary anytime they want.
  • •The secretary gets paid a salary set by another part of the law.

Example

Imagine your school principal (like the Governor) picks a new vice-principal (the secretary) for your school.

The principal can choose who they want, but the school board (like the Senate) has to say it’s okay. If the principal doesn’t like the vice-principal anymore, they can fire them. The vice-principal also gets paid a set amount, just like the secretary.
