§ 12590 Public Inspection Charitable Instruments

Key Takeaways

  • •Anyone can look at the papers filed with the Attorney General, like reports or copies of documents.
  • •The Attorney General can make rules about how and when people can see these papers.
  • •If a paper is not only about charity work, the Attorney General can keep it private and not let people see it.

Example

A person wants to check the papers of a group that says it helps poor kids.

They can go and look at the papers to see if the group is really doing charity work. But if the group also does other stuff, like selling things for profit, those parts of the papers might be kept private.
