§ 12581 Charitable Fundraising Oversight Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •This law is for groups or people who collect money or stuff for charity, like fundraisers or online donation sites.
  • •It also applies to businesses that work with charities, like companies that promise to donate some of their sales to a good cause.
  • •Political groups that follow campaign money rules don’t have to follow this law.
  • •The rules started on January 1, 2023.

Example

A company sells cookies and says it will give $1 from every box to a kids' hospital.

This company has to follow the rules in this law because it’s working with a charity. It can’t lie about how much money goes to the hospital.
