§ 11566 Salary Protection For Incumbents

Key Takeaways

  • •If a law says a job should pay less than what someone is already getting, they keep their higher pay.
  • •The new lower pay rule only starts when someone new gets hired for that job.
  • •Old workers don’t get their pay cut just because the law changes.

Example

A teacher makes $50,000 a year. A new law says teachers should only make $45,000.

The teacher keeps getting $50,000. The new $45,000 rule only applies when a new teacher is hired.
