§ 7502 Loan Security Requirements

Key Takeaways

  • •If you take a loan to buy a house, the bank must have a legal way to take the house if you don't pay back the loan.
  • •The bank can use a mortgage or another legal paper to make sure they can get their money back if you stop paying.
  • •The mortgage must clearly say how the bank is protected, like what happens if you miss payments or need more money later.

Example

You buy a house and take a loan from the bank.

The bank makes you sign a mortgage. This means if you stop paying your loan, the bank can take your house to get their money back. The mortgage also says what happens if you need to borrow more money later.
