§ 14304 Cease And Desist Orders

This law lets the regulator stop a company or person if they are doing something unsafe, dishonest, or illegal, or if they might do it soon.

Key Takeaways

  • •The regulator can order a stop if the company is currently doing something unsafe or illegal
  • •The regulator can also order a stop if there is good reason to think the company will do it soon
  • •A hearing and notice must happen before the order is made

Example

A bank is making risky loans that could cause a crash

Because the bank is doing unsafe banking actions, the regulator can order the bank to stop those loans and fix the problem
