§ 14052 Credit Union Corporate Powers

This law says credit unions can do anything that regular nonprofit corporations can do, unless this specific set of rules says they can't.

Key Takeaways

  • •Credit unions get all the usual powers that nonprofit corporations have.
  • •They can own property, sign contracts, sue and be sued, etc.
  • •If this division has a special rule that limits something, that limit wins.

Example

A credit union wants to buy a new office building for its members.

Because the credit union has the same powers as other nonprofit corporations, it can sign a purchase contract and own the building, just like any other nonprofit, unless another rule in this division says otherwise.
