§ 8840 Chafing Gear Mesh Requirements

• •You can use or have chafing gear, but you can't attach it to the very end of the cod-end.
• •Most chafing gear must have holes at least six inches big, unless it only covers the bottom half of the cod-end.
• •If the chafing gear is only on the bottom half of the cod-end, the holes can be any size.

A fisherman wants to use chafing gear on their fishing net.

They can use the chafing gear, but they can't attach it to the very end of the net. If they cover the whole net with chafing gear, the holes in the gear must be at least six inches big. If they only cover the bottom half of the net, the holes can be any size.
