Key Takeaways

  • •If you catch a striped bass, salmon, or sturgeon in a net, you must let it go right away, even if it's hurt or dead.
  • •You can't keep these fish in your net or take them with you, even if you have a fishing license.
  • •Letting these fish go doesn’t count as wasting fish.

Example

A fisherman catches a big salmon in his net while fishing.

He must take the salmon out of the net right away and put it back in the water, even if it looks hurt. He can’t keep it or take it home, no matter what.
