§ 8126 Groundfish Capacity Reduction Fee

Key Takeaways

  • •There is a fee for catching certain types of fish and shellfish to help reduce overfishing.
  • •The fee amount is decided by the commission and includes the cost of managing and collecting the fees.
  • •This rule is part of a bigger plan to protect fish numbers on the West Coast.

Example

A fisherman catches a large amount of groundfish, like cod or rockfish, off the coast of California.

The fisherman will have to pay a fee for the fish he caught. This fee helps make sure there are enough fish left in the ocean and covers the cost of managing the fee program.
