§ 8111 Far Offshore Fishery Definition

Key Takeaways

  • •This law defines what a 'far offshore fishery' is.
  • •A 'far offshore fishery' is any fishing area that is more than 200 miles away from the United States coast.
  • •This rule helps decide which fishing rules apply to boats fishing very far from the U.S. shore.

Example

A fishing boat from California sails 250 miles into the ocean to catch tuna.

Because the boat is fishing more than 200 miles from the U.S. coast, it is in a 'far offshore fishery.' Different fishing rules might apply compared to fishing closer to shore.
