§ 5942 Dam Fish Planting Orders

Key Takeaways

  • •If a dam blocks fish from swimming upstream, the owner might have to help the fish instead of building special paths or equipment.
  • •The owner may need to put baby fish into the water where the fish usually live, at certain times and in certain numbers.
  • •The government decides when, where, and how many fish to put in the water.

Example

A dam is built on a river where salmon usually swim upstream to lay eggs. The dam stops the salmon from getting up the river.

Instead of building a special path for the salmon, the dam owner might have to put baby salmon into the river downstream so they can grow and swim upstream later.
