§ 5656 Pollution Damages Funding Allocation

Key Takeaways

  • •If the Attorney General sues someone for breaking environmental laws and wins money, that money doesn't go to the general fund.
  • •The money from these lawsuits goes to a special account called the Fish and Wildlife Pollution Account.
  • •This account is part of the Fish and Game Preservation Fund, which is used to protect fish and wildlife.

Example

A company dumps toxic waste into a river, harming fish and wildlife. The Attorney General sues the company and wins $1 million.

The $1 million doesn't go to the state's general fund. Instead, it goes to the Fish and Wildlife Pollution Account to help protect and clean up the environment.
