§ 4302 Deer Head Retention Requirement

• •If you hunt and kill a deer, you must keep the part of its head where antlers grow (even if it's a female or young male without antlers).
• •You have to keep this part for the entire deer hunting season and for 15 more days after the season ends.
• •If a game warden or officer asks to see this part of the deer, you must show it to them.

You go deer hunting during the open season and successfully hunt a deer. After field dressing the deer, you decide to leave the head in the woods because you don’t want to carry it.

This is against the law. You must keep the part of the deer’s head where antlers grow with you. If a game warden stops you while you’re driving home and asks to see it, you could get in trouble if you don’t have it. You need to keep it for 15 days after the hunting season ends too.
