§ 2602 Coastal Zone Definitions

This law defines three key terms used in the coastal zone chapter: what 'acquisition' means, what the 'coastal zone' is, and what a 'local public agency' is.

Key Takeaways

  • •Acquisition = buying any interest in real property.
  • •Coastal zone = the area along the coast defined and mapped by state law.
  • •Local public agency = local government bodies that have jurisdiction in the coastal zone or the San Francisco Bay region.

Example

A city wants to buy a piece of land that lies inside the coastal zone to build a park.

Because the land is in the coastal zone, the city must treat the purchase as an 'acquisition' and follow the rules that apply to 'local public agencies' operating there.
