§ 1585 Ecological Reserves Education Recreation

This law lets the department build things and run programs in certain nature reserves for education and fun, as long as they don't harm the wildlife, and it also lets them control who can go in, set rules, and charge fees.

Key Takeaways

  • •The department can construct facilities and run programs in selected ecological reserves for education and recreation.
  • •Any facilities or programs must be compatible with protecting the reserve’s biological resources.
  • •The department can control access, set rules, and collect fees for those reserves.

Example

A state park builds a small visitor center and offers guided nature walks in a reserve, charging a small entrance fee.

Because the law says the department can put up facilities and run programs for natural history education and recreation if they protect the reserve’s plants and animals, the park can do this as long as the building and tours don’t damage the environment.
