§ 13011 Oil Pollution Fine Distribution

This law says that any money the state gets from fines, penalties, or damages for oil spills or hazardous material violations must be put into special state accounts for those kinds of pollution.

Key Takeaways

  • •All state‑collected money from oil‑related violations goes to oil‑pollution accounts.
  • •All state‑collected money from hazardous‑material violations goes to hazardous‑materials accounts.
  • •Which exact subaccount is used depends on how the case is settled or what the law says.

Example

A trucking company spills oil on a highway and is fined by the state.

The fine money the state receives will be placed into the Oil Pollution Administration Subaccount (or the Oil Pollution Response and Restoration Subaccount) instead of going into the general state fund.
