§ 13010 Fish And Wildlife Pollution Account

This law changes the name of a state fund for cleaning up fish, wildlife, oil, and hazardous material pollution, moves any existing money into the new fund, and sets up four smaller accounts inside it.

Key Takeaways

  • •The old "Fish and Wildlife Pollution Cleanup and Abatement Account" is gone and replaced by the "Fish and Wildlife Pollution Account".
  • •All cash that was in the old account on Jan 1, 1996 was moved into the new account.
  • •Four sub‑accounts were set up: two for oil pollution (administration and response/restoration) and two for hazardous materials (administration and response/restoration).

Example

A big oil spill happens in a river and the state needs money to clean it up and fix the damage.

The money used to pay for the cleanup now comes from the new Fish and Wildlife Pollution Account, specifically from the Oil Pollution Response and Restoration Subaccount that was created by this law.
