§ 10903 Bodega Marine Life Refuge

This law creates the Bodega Marine Life Refuge, protecting a specific stretch of land and the ocean water up to 1,000 feet from the high tide line.

Key Takeaways

  • •The refuge includes the land between the university's north and south boundaries, as described in a court case.
  • •It also includes the state waters extending 1,000 feet out from the mean high tide line.
  • •The area is officially named the Bodega Marine Life Refuge and is protected by law.

Example

A fisherman wants to set up a new dock on the beach near the University of California lands.

Because the area is now a marine life refuge, the fisherman cannot build the dock there; the land and the nearby ocean water are protected by this law.
