§ 107 Commissioner Conduct Standards

This law says that every commissioner must follow a basic code of conduct that includes doing their job honestly, being fair and open, protecting the public’s trust, and never using their position for personal gain.

Key Takeaways

  • •Commissioners must do their jobs faithfully and follow the law.
  • •They must act in the public’s best interest, being fair and open.
  • •They cannot let personal money or family ties affect their official decisions.

Example

A commissioner is asked to vote on a new wildlife program, but the commissioner’s sibling owns a company that would get a big contract from that program.

Because the commissioner has a family financial interest, the law says they must stay out of the decision and not use their power to help the sibling’s company.
