§ 1024 Cannabis Site Restoration Study

This law tells the state department to study how to clean up and fix damage from illegal cannabis farms and to finish the study by Jan. 1, 2027.

Key Takeaways

  • •The department must finish the study by Jan. 1, 2027.
  • •The study must recommend tech (e.g., remote sensing) to find illegal cannabis farms on public land.
  • •It must outline how to build a statewide map of all known illegal grows and note any obstacles.
  • •The department can work with a nonprofit or school to do the study.
  • •When done, the study’s results must be posted on the department’s website.

Example

A county discovers a hidden marijuana grow on a forest trail and wants to know the best way to locate and clean it up.

The department’s study will suggest tools like satellite images and a statewide map to help the county find the hidden farm, and it will create a big data set that shows where all the illegal grows are, then post the findings online for everyone to use.
