§ 9305 Adoptee Parent Legal Rights

Key Takeaways

  • •Once a child is adopted, the adoptive parents become their legal parents.
  • •The adopted child has the same rights as a biological child, like inheritance and support.
  • •The adoptive parents must take care of the child just like any other parent would.

Example

A couple adopts a child from another country.

The adopted child now has the same legal rights as if they were born to that couple, like getting financial support and inheriting property. The parents must also take care of the child’s needs, just like they would for a biological child.
