§ 7500 Parental Right To Child'S Earnings

Key Takeaways

  • •Both mom and dad have equal rights to the money their kid earns or the work their kid does, if the kid is still under their care.
  • •If one parent is dead, can't take care of the kid, or left the kid, the other parent gets all the rights to the kid's money or work.
  • •This rule doesn’t apply if the kid has a special work contract, like being an actor or musician.

Example

A 16-year-old gets a job at a fast-food place and starts earning money.

Both mom and dad can decide how that money is used, like saving for college or buying school supplies. If the dad is not around anymore, the mom gets to decide how the money is used.
