§ 6922 Minor Medical Consent Rights

This law says that kids who are 15 or older, live on their own, and handle their own money can say yes to their own doctor, eye, or dentist visits. Parents don’t have to pay for these visits.

Key Takeaways

  • •Kids 15 or older can say yes to their own medical, vision, or dental care if they live on their own and manage their own money.
  • •Parents don’t have to pay for these visits.
  • •Doctors can tell parents about the treatment if they know where the parents are.

Example

A 16-year-old who moved out and works part-time to pay rent wants to see a doctor for a check-up.

The teen can make the appointment and agree to treatment without needing a parent’s okay. The parents won’t get a bill for it.
