§ 4200 Child Support Payment Routing

This law says that if a parent gets welfare money for their kids, any child support payments must go to the county or state, not directly to the parent. The county also has to help enforce the child support order.

Key Takeaways

  • •Child support payments go to the county or state, not the parent, if the parent gets welfare.
  • •The county has to help enforce the child support order.
  • •Once the State Disbursement Unit is set up, payments go there instead of the county.

Example

A mom gets welfare to help take care of her kids. The dad is ordered to pay child support.

The dad can't pay the mom directly. He has to send the money to the county or state, and they will handle it. The county also has to help the mom if the dad doesn't pay.
