§ 3550 Support Duty For Obligors

This law says that if someone is supposed to pay support (like child support or spousal support) and they live in California, they have to pay it, even if the person they owe support to doesn't live in California.

Key Takeaways

  • •If you owe support (like child support), you have to pay it even if the person you owe lives in another state.
  • •This applies to anyone living in California who owes support.
  • •The law doesn't care where the person you owe support to lives.

Example

A dad moves to California but his kids and ex-wife live in another state.

The dad still has to pay child support, even though his kids aren't in California.
