§ 9264 Blood Product Safety Orders

Key Takeaways

  • •If blood or blood products are not safe, the secretary can stop them from being used until they are checked.
  • •The secretary can order unsafe blood or blood products to be destroyed if they can't be made safe.
  • •This is to make sure only safe blood is used for people who need it.

Example

A hospital has some blood bags that might be bad.

The secretary can tell the hospital to keep those blood bags separate and not use them until they are checked. If the blood is not safe and can't be fixed, the secretary can order it to be thrown away so no one gets hurt.
