§ 9252 Animal Blood Import Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •California keeps an eye on animal blood products coming from other states to make sure they're safe.
  • •Dog blood and blood products can only come from special community blood banks, not just any place.
  • •These out-of-state blood banks must send a report every three months showing how much dog blood, red blood cells, and plasma they sold in California.

Example

A vet clinic in California needs dog blood for a surgery.

The clinic can only buy dog blood from a special community blood bank in another state. That blood bank must follow California's safety rules and send reports every few months about how much they sold.
