§ 9153 Poultry Livestock Laboratory Certification

Key Takeaways

  • •You can't run a lab that tests sick farm animals (like chickens or cows) unless you have a special certificate from the government.
  • •To get this certificate, you must apply, pay a fee, and prove your lab is really good (approved by big science groups).
  • •The certificate lasts only one year. You must pay again and follow the rules to keep it.
  • •If your lab finds a sick animal, you must tell the person who sent the sample and the government.

Example

A farmer sends a sick chicken to a lab to find out what's wrong.

The lab must have a special certificate to test the chicken. If they find a bad disease, they must tell the farmer and the government right away.
