§ 79982 Agave Reporting Penalties

Key Takeaways

  • •You can be fined up to $1,000 if you lie on reports or hide information from the commission.
  • •You must give the commission any reports or records they ask for—if you don’t, you could get fined.
  • •If you grow agave (the plant used to make tequila), you must tell the commission who you bought it from and how much.
  • •Don’t hide, destroy, or change records the commission requires—it’s against the law and can cost you money.

Example

A farmer grows agave to sell for making tequila. The commission asks for records showing where the agave came from and how much was bought, but the farmer refuses to share the information.

The farmer broke the law by not giving the required information. They could be fined up to $1,000 for hiding these details.
