§ 79104 Commission Referendum Funding Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •Before a vote to create a commission, the people who want the commission must pay the cost of the vote upfront.
  • •If there's leftover money after the vote, it goes to the commission's funds.
  • •If the commission is created, it can pay back the people who paid for the vote and their legal costs.

Example

A group of neighbors wants to create a new neighborhood watch commission. They need to hold a vote to see if everyone agrees.

The neighbors must first pay the cost of organizing the vote. If the vote passes and the commission is created, the commission can pay them back for the vote costs and any legal fees they had to pay.
