§ 78640 Tomato Commission Membership Rules

Key Takeaways

  • •There is a group called the California Tomato Commission that has 10 tomato growers, 7 tomato handlers, and maybe 1 regular person.
  • •The tomato growers pick their representatives from different areas in California.
  • •The tomato handlers also pick their representatives from different areas.
  • •If they want, the group can add one regular person who isn’t a grower or handler.

Example

Imagine you grow tomatoes in California. You and other growers in your area get to vote for someone to represent you in a big group that makes decisions about tomatoes.

This law says how the group is put together—who gets to be in it and how they are chosen. Growers and handlers pick their own representatives, and sometimes a regular person can join too.
