Key Takeaways

  • •Before a vote happens, the people who want the vote must pay for the costs of setting it up.
  • •If there's money left after the vote, it goes back to the people who paid it.
  • •If the vote passes and the group is created, the group can pay back the people who paid for the vote and any legal costs they had.

Example

A group of neighbors wants to create a new community group and needs a vote to make it official.

The neighbors must first pay for the costs of setting up the vote. If the vote happens and there's leftover money, they get it back. If the community group is created, it can pay the neighbors back for the costs they paid.
