§ 77414 Strawberry Crate Size Standards

Key Takeaways

  • •A 'crate' is a box that holds between 6 and 12 small baskets of strawberries (each basket holds a pint).
  • •If a box holds exactly 6 baskets, it's called a 'half-crate' and costs half as much as a full crate.
  • •If a box holds more than 12 baskets, the price is decided by a special group (the commission).

Example

A farmer packs strawberries into boxes to sell at the market.

If the farmer uses a box that holds 8 baskets of strawberries, it counts as a full crate. If they use a box that holds 6 baskets, it counts as a half-crate and costs half the price. If they use a big box that holds 15 baskets, the price for that box is set by the commission.
