§ 76971 Council Program Continuation Review

Key Takeaways

  • •Every 5 years, starting in 2019, there's a check to see if the salmon council program should keep running.
  • •If 25% or more of salmon boat workers or handlers sign a petition, the program must go to a vote.
  • •The vote happens if people think the program isn't working as it should or doesn't match the law's goals.

Example

Imagine a group of salmon fishermen think the council program isn't helping them. They collect signatures from 25% of all salmon boat workers and handlers.

If they get enough signatures, the program will go to a vote to decide if it should continue or not.
