§ 7431 Broomrape Assessment Rate Authority

Key Takeaways

  • •A group (the board) suggests how much money farmers should pay for a special fee.
  • •The boss (the secretary) can change this fee amount if the board says it's okay.
  • •The fee can be different for different areas and different crops, especially if some crops are more likely to get hurt by a bad plant called broomrape.

Example

A farmer grows tomatoes in one area and carrots in another. The board says tomatoes are more likely to get hurt by broomrape, so the fee for tomatoes is higher than for carrots.

The board checks which crops are more at risk and suggests different fees. The secretary can then say yes to these fees. So, the tomato farmer pays more than the carrot farmer.
